Independent Cllr Georgiou joins the Conservative Group at Rushcliffe Borough Council

Cllr Elena Georgiou, formerly of the Bingham Independent Group, has joined the ruling Conservative Group at Rushcliffe Borough Council, reaffirming her commitment to delivering for residents across Rushcliffe.

Cllr Georgiou has represented the Bingham South Ward since 2023 and said her decision was driven by a clear focus on doing what is right for local people.

She said:

“Since the day I was elected, I have worked relentlessly for my residents. I was voted in by the people, for the people, and my priority has always been delivering real results — not playing petty politics. I am deeply committed to Rushcliffe and to standing up for our communities.

“I believe I can best continue that work as part of the Conservative Group. Under strong leadership, the Conservatives have delivered the Bingham Arena, opposed Bingham and other areas of Rushcliffe being absorbed into a new Nottingham City Council, tackled long-standing car parking issues in Bingham, and are lobbying Network Rail and the East Midlands Mayor for a new railway bridge at Bingham Station.

“These priorities matter to residents. It is clear to me that the Conservative Group is focused on delivery, not political point-scoring, and that is why I have chosen to join them.”

Cllr Neil Clarke MBE, Leader of the Conservative Group and Rushcliffe Borough Council, welcomed Cllr Georgiou, saying:

“Elena is a hardworking and well-respected local councillor, and we are delighted to welcome her to the Conservative Group. We lead a council with the lowest council tax in Nottinghamshire, while remaining debt-free and investing millions into vital local services.

“We will continue to oppose Rushcliffe being forced into a new Nottingham City Council, resist excessive housing targets imposed on our communities, and push back against funding cuts from central government.”

Cllr Georgiou added:

“My loyalty is to Rushcliffe and its residents. I was elected to get things done — and that is exactly what I intend to keep doing.”
