Jail for knife carrier whose victim was left scarred for life

A knife carrier who left a man scarred for life after slashing him across the face has been jailed.

Tarnie Simpson was part of a group who attacked the victim in an alleyway following an argument in Truman Close, St Ann’s, Nottingham.

The group fled the scene but police officers found the weapon discarded in a garden and Simpson’s fingerprints were discovered on the handle.

Simpson, aged 23, of Abbotsford Drive, St Ann’s, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

Another member of the group, 23-year-old Tyree Wilson, of Truman Close, pleaded guilty to affray and was sentenced to a community order on Tuesday (19 August).

Simpson appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday (20 August) where he was jailed for a total of two years and three months.

Simpson and Wilson were in a Mercedes car parked in Truman Close at 11pm on Boxing Day 2021 when they became involved in a disagreement with the victim.

They chased the man down an alleyway and Simpson brandished a large knife. He lashed out, leaving the victim with a slash wound to his cheek.

Detective Inspector Julian Eminson-Ferry, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“What happened that evening is another example of how the presence of a knife can instantly lead to an escalation of any incident.

“The victim will unfortunately be left with permanent scarring and a lasting reminder of the attack. It has understandably had a deep and devastating impact upon him.

“The officers who attended should be commended for recovering the weapon as the forensic evidence gathered from it was crucial in bringing Simpson to justice.”
