Keyworth to get more frequent buses after funding boost

Bus passengers in Keyworth, Hucknall, Calverton and Newark are set to benefit from more frequent buses and timetable changes, thanks to funding from the county council.

Bus passengers in Keyworth, Hucknall, Calverton and Newark are set to benefit from more frequent buses and timetable changes, thanks to funding from the county council.

Throughout February and March 2025, Nottinghamshire County Council will part-fund the following improvements:

  • trentbarton’s ‘Keyworth’ service will see its frequency increased from every 20 minutes, Monday to Saturday in the daytime, to every 15 minutes. Effective from Sunday, 2 February 2025.
  • Stagecoach’s ‘141’ service will become more reliable, with new timetable changes.
  • Stagecoach’s Newark ‘1N and 2N’ services will see cross-town bus routes introduced, extending from Newark Morrisons to Newark Bus Station and then onwards to Balderton and Hawtonville. The new routes will run every 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday, doubling the service to the Lincoln Road area and Coddington while providing cross-town links. The 3N service will no longer be in operation, but all existing stops will be served by the ‘1N and 2N’. Effective from Sunday, 23 February 2025.
  • trentbarton’s ‘Calverton’ evening service will see an hourly service from Monday to Thursday and a bus every 30 minutes on Saturday evenings, with improvements also made to the timetable. Effective from Sunday, 2 March 2025.

The improvements are made possible thanks to the county council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) funding and its partnership with trentbarton and Stagecoach.

The Keyworth service already offers easy access to the city centre for commuters, but it will now become more frequent, more reliable, and provide increased access to the Sharphill Wood development.

These enhanced services have been designed with passengers in mind, ensuring they can remain confident that buses will be more reliable, meet demand, and create a better overall experience.

Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said:

“It’s fantastic that we are always looking to improve our local bus services around the county and offer the best value for money.

“We have looked at passenger demand and where amendments can be made to timetables and routes so that the overall experience is a positive one. Passengers will also notice that buses will be arriving at stops more promptly and will get them around the county, whether that’s to their place of work or to local amenities. And of course, if you are travelling around the Newark area, there are the all-rounder tickets that allow you to travel using any operator.

“It is important that these changes have been put in place, as passengers should feel confident that when they catch the bus, it will arrive on time.

“And of course, these enhancements wouldn’t have been possible without the BSIP funding and the fantastic partnership and working relationships we have with all of our local bus operators.”
