A knife-carrier failed with his attempts to outrun police and throw a knife in a bush without anyone noticing.
Body-worn video captured Nakeel Senior-Thompson as he tried to flee from Operational Support officers on foot.
Rewind a few seconds and it was Senior-Thompson’s poor standard of driving that initially attracted the attention of police.
After witnessing him speed around a residential area of Radford during a busy time in the day, officers told him to pull over the car.
These orders were ignored however, with the 27-year-old instead leading police on a short pursuit before stopping the vehicle in Argyle Street.
Armed Policing officers were hot on his tail when he then elected to abandon the car and make a run for it, around 5.45pm last Friday (12 September).
The policing team were behind him every step of the way as he hurdled fences and tried – unsuccessfully – to escape through gardens.
After being placed in handcuffs and walked back to where he’d left his car, Senior-Thompson attempted to discard a lock knife he’d been hiding in his waistband.
The throw wasn’t as subtle as he thought, however, with officers – and their still-recording body-worn – watching on as the blade sailed over the knife-carrier’s shoulder.
Thanks to that good spot, the weapon was seized from a nearby bush shortly afterwards.
Senior-Thompson was charged with possessing a bladed article in public, driving without due care and attention, failing to stop, and other driving offences.
He pleaded guilty to all of these during an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (15 September).
Senior-Thompson, of no fixed address, was sentenced that same day to six months in prison, suspended for 24 months. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Armed Policing team, said:
“As anyone who watches the footage can see, our officers did a great job chasing down and detaining this individual.
“After Senior-Thompson’s poor driving initially grabbed their attention, they tried in vain to get him to stop before continuing the pursuit on foot when he abandoned his vehicle.
“The officers’ professionalism ensured he didn’t get out of their sight and ultimately led to us seizing a knife Senior-Thompson had on him but had been trying to hide.
“They then showed great awareness of their surroundings to ensure his attempts to discard the weapon were unsuccessful, so it was a great job all-round.”
