National Highways is carrying out improvement work at Gamston roundabout, which is part of the A52 Nottingham Junction Improvement scheme.
The scheme is currently in the first phase of main works at this junction, and will be moving into Phase 2 from mid-May 2022.
During Phase 2, National Highways will be working alongside the westbound carriageway of Radcliffe Road, as well as the northbound carriageway of the A52 approaching Gamston roundabout.
Before they can move into Phase 2, they need to put in place a weekend road closure so we can safely switch over our traffic management and move the concrete barriers.
Upcoming road closures
To prepare for Phase 2, we’ll need to close three points around the Gamston roundabout. The following closures will be in place on the nights of Friday 13 and Saturday 14 May 2022, from 8pm to 6am:
- A6011 Radcliffe Road at its junction with Ambleside.
- A52 Lings Bar Road, at the Tollerton Lane junction.
- A52 Radcliffe Road, at the Stragglethorpe Road junction.
Advanced warning signs will be installed on the road, so motorists will have plenty of time to plan their journeys.
What diversion routes will be in place?
During these road closures, the following diversion routes will be in place.
A52 Eastbound
Road users travelling eastbound on the A52 Radcliffe Road from the Stragglethorpe Road junction will be invited to join the A46 at the Saxondale roundabout, before driving south to Widmerpool, following the A606 Melton Road, and then re-joining the A52 Gamston Lings Bar Road at the Wheatcroft roundabout. This route is not suitable for high sided vehicles over 14’ 6”.
A52 Eastbound for high sided vehicles
High sided vehicles over 14’ 6” are invited to take the A46 from the Saxondale roundabout and travel south to the Dalby Interchange. From here, take the A6006 westbound to Rempstone, then follow the A60 northbound to re-join the A52 at the Nottingham Knight junction.
Accessing the A6011
To access the A6011 from an eastbound direction, drivers are invited to join the A46 at the Saxondale roundabout, before driving south to Widmerpool to take the A606 Melton Road. Continue on Melton Road through West Bridgford and join the A60 London Road, then re-join the A6011 at Meadow Lane. This route is not suitable for high sided vehicles over 14’ 6”.

Project information
Phase 2 – Gamston junction improvement scheme
Phase 2 will see the construction of a new lane on the westbound and northbound approach of the A52 at Gamston roundabout. The traffic management for Phase 2 will remain in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week for approximately thirteen weeks from mid-May 2022. During this time, we’ll maintain two narrow running lanes so traffic can continue to travel in each direction.
Following this, Phase 3 will take place from the middle of August until the start of December 2022. Phase 3 will involve a series of night-time lane closures, which will allow us to complete work which cannot be completed safely throughout the day. There will also be some night-time full road closures to allow us to resurface the junction. We’ll post updates on our webpage about these closures nearer to the time.
Please note that the exact dates and times of the work may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
