Police arrested a learner driver’s supervisor after he failed a breathalyser test.
Officers pulled over the car with L-plates after noticing it was being poorly controlled on Independent Street, Radford, late on Saturday night (22 March).
The supervisor of the car – a Suzuki Swift – failed a breathalyser test and was arrested.
Joe Waime, of Pleasant Row, Hyson Green, has been charged with being over the legal limit for alcohol whilst being in charge of a vehicle.
The 47-year-old has been granted unconditional bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 11 April.
PC Dan Bird, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“When supervising a learner driver, you are considered to be in control of the vehicle, and therefore, you are subject to the same laws and penalties as the driver.
“This means you cannot have a breath or blood alcohol level higher than the legal limit. If you are caught over the limit while supervising a learner driving, you could face penalties such as fines, penalty points on your driving license, or even a driving ban.
“The primary responsibility of a supervisor is to ensure the safety of the learner driver and other road users. Where the supervisor fails to do this, we will not hesitate to take the appropriate action.”
