Man charged after 14 thefts from a Nottingham Co-op store

A suspect has been charged in connection with a string of 14 shop thefts as police continue efforts to crack down on retail crime.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in the Carlton area on Tuesday (4 July 2023) after extensive work by officers to investigate raids at the Coop store in Westdale Lane West, Mapperley, between 11 February and 2 July 2023.

Daniel Whitchurch, aged 33, of Carlton, was subsequently released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 20 July 2023.

Inspector Mark Stanley, district commander for Gedling, said: “We know the costly impact shoplifting can have on our local communities and businesses.

“I would like to reassure our local retailers that we will continue to proactively target those who commit offences of this nature, and we will continue to offer our support to local businesses to protect them from shop theft and to prevent and drive down this kind of criminality.”
