Man in court after breath test showed he was four times over alcohol limit

A drink driver who crashed into a stationary vehicle while nearly four times over the limit has appeared in court.

Prince Ncube, aged 31, drove into the back of the car as it waited at a set of traffic lights in Mansfield Woodhouse shortly before 10.30pm on Saturday, 15 November.

The two occupants, who were not hurt in the collision on Leeming Road South, soon realised that Ncube had been drinking.

Police were called, and Ncube was breathalysed at the scene before being taken into custody.

He later recorded a reading of 137 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – nearly four times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Ncube, already banned from the road after a conviction in August for being drunk in charge of a vehicle, gave no-comment answers in his police interview but later pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without insurance, and driving while disqualified

Appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 24 December, Ncube, of Leeming Road South, was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months.

He was also banned from driving for three years, ordered to complete 50 hours of unpaid work, and instructed to complete an alcohol treatment programme.

Detective Sergeant Clint Gloyn, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Fortunately for Ncube, nobody was seriously injured in this incident.

“Things, however, could easily have been different after he made the conscious decision to drive while intoxicated.

“By doing so, he put other road users in danger and must now live with the consequences of his actions.”
