Newark to freeze council tax for 2026 / 27

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Cabinet is set to debate the draft budget for 2026/27 on Tuesday 24 February.

The council says that it remains committed to supporting residents and this budget recommends for Council Tax to be FROZEN for 2026/27.

The plan aims to protect essential services, invest in communities, and keep finances resilient amidst national changes.
Key investments include:

• £3.7m for environmental initiatives and parks

• Nearly £1m for cultural sites and events

• Continued support for affordable housing and homelessness prevention

• Funding for Disabled Facilities Grants and Warm Homes schemes

• Major regeneration projects like Yorke Drive, Ollerton town centre and the new Bilsthorpe Community Hub

Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “This budget is responsible, ambitious and rooted in the needs of our communities.

“It reflects a well-run Council, one that can invest, can freeze Council Tax and avoids cuts in services because it is efficient and generates external income.

“We are freezing Council Tax, protecting vital services and investing in the things that matter most, from parks to housing, climate action and major regeneration.

“Newark and Sherwood is in a strong financial position, and this budget makes sure we continue delivering for residents now and in the years ahead.”
