Four people were arrested and 52 people were stopped and searched during an operation to tackle drugs and associated violence.
A kitchen knife, CS spray and a quantity of drugs including cocaine, amphetamine, mamba and cannabis were recovered during Operation Guardian in Nottingham city centre on Saturday night (7 March).
As well as the arrests, one person was reported for summons to court, one person was given a caution and four people were given cannabis warnings.
A number of officers patrolled the streets of the city, aided by a passive drugs dog, and carried out stop and search activity, as well as engaging with people enjoying a night out. Officers from Cambridgeshire Constabulary also visited to see the operation in action.
One of the arrests included a 15-year-old boy, on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of a firearm after officers seized a kitchen knife and CS spray.
Sergeant Graham Whitt, who led the operation, said: “Operation Guardian is now well established in the city centre and across other parts of Nottinghamshire and is highly successful in tackling drugs and reducing violence which is often associated with drug use and dealing in the night time economy. Taking weapons off the city centre streets is of vital importance in keeping Nottingham a safer place to live, work and visit. I firmly believe that every weapon removed is a life saved.
“Officers from Cambridgeshire Constabulary observed how we ran the operation and were impressed with its effectiveness. Incidents of violence greatly reduce when it takes place.”
