Nottingham Hospitals Charity appoints new Chief Executive

Nigel Gregory has been appointed as the new Chief Executive at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, and will step up to the role on 1 March 2024.

The Charity raises over £4million every year, to enhance patient care across Nottingham’s four NHS hospitals, including Queen’s Medical Centre, City Hospital, Ropewalk House and Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

The appointment will succeed Barbara Cathcart, who is retiring after 17 years leading the Charity.

Nigel will step up from Director of Development at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, where he has been in post for 7 years. In his previous role, Nigel oversaw all fundraising and marketing activity, raising over £30million for projects across Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, as well as developing and implementing the Charity’s five-year strategy for the future.

During his tenure as Director, Nigel oversaw the launch of a number of £multi-million fundraising Appeals. This included the Big Appeal for Nottingham Children’s Hospital, which helped fund a £2.9m intra-operative MRI scanner in 2021.

Prior to joining the Charity, Nigel held senior positions at prestigious local universities, including Deputy Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Loughborough University, and Head of Development and Alumni Relations at De Montfort University in Leicester.

Nigel Gregory said: “I am very pleased to be taking on the role of Chief Executive at Nottingham Hospitals Charity. Barbara has been an exceptional leader since taking the helm in 2006, and has led the Charity to what is now one of the most successful NHS charities in the UK. I have enjoyed working with her over the past few years, and know she will be missed.

“Moving forwards, I know from my experience with the Charity what is needed to develop even stronger partnerships between us and the hospital Trust, to make patient care as good as it can possibly be. I look forward to leading our organisation into the next chapter in 2024 and beyond.”

Carole Ayre, Chair of Trustees at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, was on the recruitment panel. She said: “These are big shoes to fill but it was clear that Nigel was the right person to take the Charity forwards. I’d like to congratulate Nigel on his appointment – I know that he will build on Barbara’s legacy and that we shall continue to flourish under his leadership.”
