Nottingham murder: Police arrest suspect in murder investigation

Nottinghamshire Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Ricardo Cotteral.

Father-of-two Ricardo, aged 33, died after being stabbed during an altercation with a group of men in Broad Street, in Nottingham city centre, shortly before 2am on Sunday (24 April).

He collapsed a short time later in Lower Parliament Street in Nottingham and despite the best efforts of paramedics he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have been working around the clock on the investigation and last night arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Detective Chief Inspector Clare Dean, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our thoughts are with Ricardo’s family at this incredibly sad time. Specialist family liaison officers are working with them to provide support and guidance as the investigation progresses.

“A team of highly-skilled detectives is working incredibly hard to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident, which has led the fatal stabbing of a young father.

“As well as this, officers are also patrolling more regularly in the city centre to provide a reassuring uniformed presence.

“We have already arrested one man in connection with the enquiry, on suspicion of assisting an offender, and we are actively looking for a number of other suspects in connection with the investigation.

“To help us get these people in custody as soon as possible, I would urge anyone with information to come forward.

“Did you witness the altercation, or people running away from the area?

“Do you have mobile phone or dash-cam footage?

“Have you noticed a sudden and suspicious change in behaviour in someone you know?

“Or have you seen social media or heard people suggesting who they think is responsible?

“Any piece of information that people can give us could prove vital in bringing the offenders to justice.”
