Detectives investigating the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham city centre have been granted additional time to question a woman arrested in connection with the incident.
The officer suffered a gunshot wound to his foot after approaching a man and a woman at a bus stop in Angel Row at around 4.50am on Sunday 18 October.
Later that evening, officers stopped a vehicle in the Radford area of Nottingham and arrested its three occupants. Among them was a 27-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Today (Wednesday 21 October), Nottingham Magistrates’ Court granted detectives a warrant of further detention, allowing them to continue questioning the suspect.
The vehicle’s two other occupants, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
A 30-year-old man arrested in Bedfordshire during the early hours of Monday (19 October) was also questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.
Meanwhile, a fifth arrest was made on Tuesday (20 October) when a 21-year-old woman was detained in south-east London on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has now been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
On Wednesday afternoon (21 October), a 35-year-old man was arrested in the Bulwell area of Nottingham on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender.
A seventh person was then arrested during the evening of Wednesday (21 October) when a 33-year-old female was detained in Aspley also on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender. Both remain in custody.
Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Bull, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“The investigation team continues to work tirelessly to establish exactly what happened before, during and after this appalling incident. I would like to thank them, along with colleagues from other police forces, for their continued support and assistance.
“It remains crucial that anyone with information about this incident comes forward and speaks to us.
“The injured officer was carrying out his duty to protect the public and it is truly abhorrent that this has happened to him. We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and are keeping him and his family fully informed of developments in the investigation.
“We would also like to stress that the officer has requested privacy at this time, and we ask that the media respects that wish.”
Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call 101, quoting incident 106 of 18 October 2026. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
A firearm was recovered after the shooting on Sunday 18 October, when police said a man and a woman had fled the scene in Angel Row. The officer had approached the pair shortly before suffering a gunshot wound to his foot.
The incident prompted a major police response around Old Market Square, with cordons put in place on Angel Row, Beastmarket Hill and St James’s Street while officers carried out investigations.
