Nottingham traffic and travel updates: Monday 26 October

Motorists and public transport passengers are being advised to check their journeys this morning following disruption caused by Storm Boelo over the weekend.

New overnight closures also begin on the A52 between Bingham and Barrowby, while roadworks affect several Nottingham bus routes.

On the railway, Storm Boelo caused disruption between Nottingham and Alfreton on Sunday. National Rail issued a fresh warning at 05:48 today that some disruption could continue because of the storm’s effects.

The A52 westbound weekend closure at Wheatcroft was scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning. Further A52 closures begin tonight near Bingham and M1 junction 25.

In Nottingham, Maid Marian Way remains subject to severe congestion warnings, while new daytime closures begin in Bramcote and Killisick.

Roads and motorways

M1, A1, A46 and A52

No new major collision or emergency closure has been independently confirmed on Nottinghamshire’s M1, A1, A46 or A52 in the early reports checked.

A52 Wheatcroft – weekend closure scheduled to end

The major weekend closure of the A52 westbound Gamston Link Road between Gamston Island and Wheatcroft Island was scheduled to finish at 06:00 today.

The road has been closed since 20:00 on Friday 23 October for utility diversion works associated with the Wheatcroft junction improvement programme.

The closure affected traffic travelling westbound towards Nottingham and required diversions for several trentbarton services.

The scheduled reopening time has been confirmed.

Motorists should remain alert for any delayed reopening or residual congestion during the morning peak.

A52 Bingham to Barrowby – new overnight closures begin tonight

One of the most significant new roadworks programmes begins this evening.

The A52 between Bingham and Barrowby will close in stages overnight from Monday 26 October until Friday 6 November.

The restrictions operate between 20:00 and 06:00.

The programme involves drainage improvements, safety barrier inspections, road sweeping, vegetation clearance and grass cutting.

The first phase begins tonight and continues for three nights, affecting the section between Saxondale Roundabout and Grantham Road at Whatton.

Further phases are scheduled as follows:

DatesSection affected
26–28 OctoberSaxondale Roundabout to Grantham Road, Whatton
29–31 OctoberGrantham Road, Whatton to Grantham Road, Bottesford
3–6 NovemberGrantham Road, Bottesford to Barrowby

A signed diversion will operate in both directions using the A46 and A1 via Newark.

Lay-bys along the A52 between Bingham and Barrowby will also close continuously from 13:00 today until 06:00 on Saturday 7 November.

Access arrangements will be provided for affected residents and businesses.

The programme is weather-dependent, and National Highways warns that dates may change.

A52 at M1 junction 25 – further overnight closure

National Highways has also scheduled further overnight lighting improvement works on the A52 around M1 junction 25.

The programme includes a westbound carriageway closure over the M1 junction 25 interchange, beginning tonight.

Works are generally scheduled between 20:00 and 06:00.

The National Highways webpage contains an inconsistency in the published end date for this phase, so the precise final night requires confirmation.

A further westbound closure between Bardills Roundabout and M1 junction 25 is scheduled for Friday 30 October.

The restrictions form part of the programme to replace existing roadside lighting with more energy-efficient LED equipment.

Maid Marian Way – severe congestion warning continues

Demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park continues to affect traffic through Nottingham city centre.

The temporary contraflow remains in operation, with restricted road capacity and temporary traffic signals.

Nottingham City Transport continues to carry a warning that the demolition works have caused severe congestion across the city centre and surrounding roads.

Its standing service notice warns of severe delays and short-notice cancellations.

This is an ongoing operator warning rather than confirmation that individual journeys have been cancelled this morning.

City-centre bus diversions

The temporary stopping arrangements remain in operation.

Turquoise 77/C, 78/A/B and 79/B services travel via Talbot Street, Shakespeare Street and North Church Street before terminating on Burton Street alongside The Cornerhouse.

Outbound journeys towards Strelley and Bulwell depart from Burton Street stop T7.

Navy 1, 4 and 48/A, together with Pathfinder 90, are not serving Maid Marian Way stop M5 outside the former college on journeys towards the city centre.

Red 45/B passengers should use stop M2 outside Nottingham Lighting Centre instead of the Maid Marian Way stop near The Salutation.

The arrangements will continue throughout the demolition works.

Bramcote – Town Street closes today

A new daytime road closure begins this morning on Town Street in Bramcote.

The road will close between 08:00 and 15:30 today, Monday 26 October, for tree maintenance.

NCT service 18 will divert in both directions.

Towards Stapleford, buses will travel via Church Street and the A52 before returning to their normal route at Bramcote Island.

Towards Nottingham, buses will use the A52, Sandby Lane, Sandringham Drive and Thoresby Road before returning to Town Street.

The Chapel Street stops in both directions will not be served.

NCT says buses will not stop along the diversion route.

Killisick Road – resurfacing begins

Another new daytime closure begins on Killisick Road, affecting Lime 58.

Resurfacing works are scheduled from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, between 08:00 and 18:00 each day.

Lime 58 will divert in both directions via Beechwood Road, Coppice Road, Howbeck Road and Gleneagles Drive.

Stops at Spinningdale, Cedar Grove and Oakdale Road cannot be served during the restrictions.

Passengers using Lime 58 should check their usual stop before travelling.

Bilborough – Cockington Road remains closed

Daytime resurfacing works continue on Cockington Road between Brindley Road and Trowell Road.

The closure operates between 08:00 and 17:00 each weekday until Friday 30 October.

Pink 28 and Orange 35 remain diverted.

Pink 28 terminates at Burnside Green rather than completing its normal route through Bilborough.

Orange 35 uses Trowell Road, Glaisdale Drive, Burnside Road and Bracebridge Drive.

Stops on Cockington Road, Birchover Road, Stotfield Road and Bilborough Road cannot be served during the works.

Daybrook – continuing bus delays

NCT continues to warn of delays because of lane closures at Daybrook.

The affected services are Lilac 25, Grey 53, 54 and 55, and Lime 58.

The warning was introduced on Tuesday 20 October and remains listed without a confirmed completion date.

Passengers travelling between Nottingham, Sherwood, Arnold and surrounding areas should allow additional time.

Ilkeston – final scheduled day of Charter Fair restrictions

Road closures and temporary bus diversions remain scheduled around Ilkeston town centre today.

The restrictions were introduced for the annual Charter Fair and are advertised from Tuesday 20 until Monday 26 October.

Trentbarton services affected include ilkeston flyer, my15, the two, 31, 32, 33 and 34.

Ilkeston Market Place stops 1 to 5, Queen Street and South Street are unavailable during the restrictions.

Alternative stopping arrangements are in place on Albert Street and Derby Road.

Today is the advertised final day, although the exact time at which normal routes will resume has not been confirmed.
