Nottingham traffic and travel updates: Tuesday 27 October

A new overnight closure programme on the A52 between Bingham and Barrowby is under way, while roadworks on the M1 near Trowell Services were scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning.

In Nottingham, faulty traffic lights at Sneinton Hermitage are forcing bus diversions, and NCT has issued a fresh 05:50 warning about delays to Orange 36 services.

Further road closures begin today in Hucknall and Diseworth, while Maid Marian Way remains subject to severe congestion warnings.

On the railway, engineering works are affecting early-morning and late-night East Midlands Railway services, including trains between Derby and Nottingham.

NET’s latest available notice reports trams serving all stops.

Roads and motorways

M1, A1, A46 and A52 – incident check

No major new collision or emergency closure has been independently confirmed on Nottinghamshire’s strategic road network in the early information checked.

Motorists can check National Highways live traffic information and Nottingham Travelwise for developing incidents.

A52 – overnight closures between Bingham and Barrowby

One of the most significant roadworks programmes affecting Nottinghamshire this week continues tonight.

The A52 between Bingham and Barrowby is closing in stages overnight until Friday 6 November.

The restrictions operate between 20:00 and 06:00.

The first phase affects the section between Saxondale Roundabout and Grantham Road at Whatton.

This phase began on Monday 26 October and is scheduled to continue for three nights, including tonight.

The programme involves drainage improvements, safety barrier inspections, road sweeping, vegetation clearance and grass cutting.

A signed diversion operates in both directions via the A46 and A1 through Newark.

Further A52 closures

The remaining phases are scheduled as follows:

DatesSection affected
26–28 OctoberSaxondale Roundabout to Grantham Road, Whatton
29–31 OctoberGrantham Road, Whatton to Grantham Road, Bottesford
3–6 NovemberGrantham Road, Bottesford to Barrowby

Lay-bys between Bingham and Barrowby are also closed continuously from 13:00 on Monday 26 October until 06:00 on Saturday 7 November.

The programme is weather-dependent, and National Highways says the arrangements may change.

Bingham – additional overnight restrictions

Separate overnight lane closures are also scheduled at the A52 roundabout in Bingham.

The restrictions affect Nottingham Road at its junction with the roundabout for westbound traffic, and Fosse Way at the same junction for southbound traffic.

The works operate between 20:00 and 06:00 until Saturday 7 November.

The restrictions are required for general maintenance, including grass cutting and electrical testing.

The roads are scheduled to be clear outside the overnight working periods.

Nottingham – Maid Marian Way congestion continues

Demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park remains a significant source of traffic disruption in Nottingham city centre.

Traffic continues to use the temporary contraflow on Maid Marian Way, with restricted capacity and temporary traffic signals.

Nottingham City Transport continues to warn that the works have caused severe congestion across the city centre and surrounding roads.

Its current notice says services are experiencing severe delays and short-notice cancellations.

This is a continuing network-wide warning rather than confirmation that every individual service is delayed this morning. Nottingham City Transport

City-centre bus diversions

The temporary stopping arrangements remain in operation.

Turquoise 77/C, 78/A/B and 79/B services enter Nottingham via Talbot Street, Shakespeare Street and North Church Street before terminating on Burton Street alongside The Cornerhouse.

Outbound services towards Strelley and Bulwell depart from Burton Street stop T7.

Navy 1, 4 and 48/A, together with Pathfinder 90, are not serving Maid Marian Way stop M5 outside the former college on journeys towards the city centre.

Red 45/B passengers should use stop M2 outside Nottingham Lighting Centre instead of the Maid Marian Way stop near The Salutation.

These arrangements will remain throughout the demolition works.

NCT – fresh 05:50 warning for Orange 36

NCT has issued a new disruption notice this morning.

At 05:50 today, the operator reported delays affecting Orange 36 because of a problem with a bus.

The notice does not specify the individual journeys affected or provide an expected time for services to return to normal.

Passengers using Orange 36 between Nottingham, Beeston and Chilwell should check live departure information.

Sneinton Hermitage – faulty traffic lights cause bus diversions

A separate disruption affecting Red 44 and 44A began on Monday 26 October.

NCT says faulty traffic lights at Sneinton Hermitage are preventing buses from operating their normal routes.

Towards Gedling, services continue along Manvers Street before crossing the bridge and turning left onto Daleside Road.

They resume their normal routes from Racecourse Park and Ride.

Towards Nottingham city centre, buses travel from Racecourse Park and Ride along Daleside Road before turning right onto Manvers Street.

Several stops on Sneinton Hermitage and Colwick Road cannot be served.

Passengers are being directed to Red 43 on Sneinton Dale or alternative stops on Daleside Road.

Hucknall – Park Drive closure begins today

A new daytime closure begins on Park Drive in Hucknall.

trentbarton confirms that Park Drive will close at its junction with Broomhill Road from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 October.

The restrictions operate between 09:30 and 15:30 each day.

The closure affects the operator’s connect service.

Stops unavailable in both directions include Vedonis Park, Occupation Road, Johnson Avenue, Oak Grove, Yew Tree Road, Infant School and Beardall Street.

Passengers travelling through Hucknall should check their usual stopping arrangements before the daytime closure begins.

Diseworth – road closure affects skylink Nottingham

Another new closure begins today on Grimes Gate in Diseworth.

The road is scheduled to close between 09:30 and 15:30 today, Tuesday 27 October.

Trentbarton says skylink Nottingham will be affected.

The following stops cannot be served during the closure: Grimes Gate, Clements Gate and Brookside.

Passengers travelling between Nottingham, East Midlands Airport and the Loughborough area should check their journeys.

Bramcote – service 18A remains diverted

Roadworks on Thoresby Road and Derby Road continue to affect NCT service 18A.

Towards Nottingham, buses divert via Bramcote Lane, Wollaton Vale, Woodside Road and Brook Road.

The reverse diversion operates towards Wollaton.

Several stops on Thoresby Road and Derby Road cannot be served.

The diversion began on Monday 19 October and remains listed without a confirmed end date.

Seller’s Wood Drive – gas works continue

Cadent Gas works remain in progress on Seller’s Wood Drive.

Yellow 69 towards Snape Wood is diverted until Friday 30 October.

Buses continue along Ravensworth Road before turning onto Camberley Road and returning to Seller’s Wood Drive.

Stops on Hoewood Road and Catherine Close, together with Aldi, cannot be served in the affected direction.

Yellow 69 towards Nottingham city centre operates normally.

City Hospital: Blue 40A continues to terminate at the Radiotherapy stop because Linden Way remains closed.

Pinxton: Kirkby Lane remains subject to a water-main installation programme until December, affecting trentbarton’s 9.3 and 90.

East Bridgford: Long-term junction improvements continue on the A6097 at Kirk Hill, affecting rushcliffe villager services.

Long Eaton: A temporary one-way system around Long Eaton Green continues to affect skylink Nottingham and my15 services. The current programme is scheduled until 4 December.

Sutton Parkway: Long-term traffic management continues around Lowmoor Road and Penny Emma Way, affecting several trentbarton routes.

Killisick Road – earlier works finished

There is an important change to the previously advertised resurfacing programme on Killisick Road.

Although NCT’s service updates page still contains a notice covering 26–30 October, it explicitly states that the works ended on Monday 26 October at 13:15.

The associated Lime 58 diversion should therefore not be carried forward as an active restriction today without a new notice.

Engineering works are affecting several East Midlands Railway services today.

The train is running to an amended timetable because of overnight engineering work between Long Eaton and Derby.

It is also scheduled to omit Beeston.

Passengers travelling to or from Beeston are advised to use alternative services.

The alteration applies from Tuesday 27 until Friday 30 October.

Nottingham to Matlock – replacement buses tonight

National Rail’s current engineering information confirms the planned alterations listed above, but this does not establish that all other services are operating on time.

The storm-related Nottingham–Alfreton disruption reported on Sunday 25 October has not been confirmed as continuing today and should not be carried forward as an active incident.
