Nottingham warehouse to become Padel Tennis centre

Plans to turn an empty Nottingham warehouse into a new padel tennis venue have been approved by the council.

Steve Summers from Advantage Padel Ltd applied to Nottingham City Council in March to turn the former Almor Limited factory into the new sports facility.

Almor was a fabric and thermal factory which closed down in 2022.

The City Council approved plans for the new padel tennis facilities on Wednesday (May 7).

Padel tennis is a racquet sport which is played in an enclosed court which is around one third the size of a regular tennis court.

The factory space will be reused to provide seven indoor padel tennis courts, an indoor pickle tennis court, a club café, warm-up gym and changing rooms.

Five of the courts will be double padel courts, with two single courts.

Two outdoor padel tennis courts are also planned for the north of the building.

Planning documents say: “The courts have walls, and the balls can be played off them in a similar way to the game of squash.

“The proposed development is intended to cater for one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK in a modern facility which will complement and enhance the existing offer of sporting facilities in this part of Nottingham.

“Padel tennis facilities cater for groups of mixed ages and abilities in playing together.”

The site will include 49 car parking spaces, including five accessible bays and two for electric vehicles and will hire 10 staff members.

Advantage Padel currently operates a centre in Kingsley, Hampshire, along with three other facilities under way in South East Hampshire, South Dorset and London.

In April 2025, the council gave the go-ahead for Physique Evolution Limited to turn the same site into a gym – this means two approved applications for the same site currently stand.

When this happens, the council says “it will be for the landlord to now sort out tenancies with one of the applicants”.
