Nottinghamshire traffic and travel updates: Tuesday 8 September

The main issues today are planned works: resurfacing in Edwalton, a new closure at Pye Hill Road in Jacksdale, continuing A52 Wheatcroft works and several bus diversions.

Roads and motorways

No major new collision or emergency closure has been identified on Nottinghamshire’s principal strategic routes in the early check.

Overnight National Highways works on the A46 included northbound restrictions between the A606 and A52 and between the B6166 and A617 near Newark. These were scheduled to finish by 04:00-05:00 this morning.

An overnight closure on the A52 eastbound from the A6514 was scheduled to finish at 05:00. The current live A52 feed reports no live closure on the route.

A52 Wheatcroft – major works now under way

The significant new phase of the A52 Nottingham Junctions programme at Wheatcroft is now under way.

Utility diversion work started on Monday 7 September, with lane restrictions and a 40mph limit being introduced around the Wheatcroft junction. This initial phase is expected to take around three months, ahead of the larger junction reconstruction programme.

This is likely to become an increasingly important source of delays on the A52 between West Bridgford, Gamston and Nottingham Knight.

Rail

East Midlands Railway continues to operate its enhanced but still temporary reduced Intercity timetable.

EMR increased the service from around 87% to 92% of its planned Intercity timetable, reinstating eight weekday and four weekend services, including previously cancelled Nottingham trains. The reduced timetable was introduced because of availability and reliability problems involving the new Class 810 fleet and existing Class 222 trains.

RMT industrial action is still scheduled for Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 September, affecting EMR Intercity and Connect services. EMR Regional services are not included in that strike action.

There are also late-night engineering alterations this week. The 23:00 Lincoln to Nottingham does not run, with a replacement bus serving Newark, Collingham, Fiskerton, Bleasby, Lowdham, Burton Joyce and Carlton. Other late services between Nottingham, Derby and Matlock are also affected.
