Nottinghamshire weather for Wednesday 14 January

Wednesday will be a calmer and brighter day overall, with sunshine through the morning, light winds and temperatures recovering slightly, before cloud increases and a chance of rain develops later in the evening.

Early morning
The day will start cold but clear, with temperatures close to 0°C at dawn and a light frost possible in a few spots. Skies will be largely clear through the early morning, allowing sunshine to develop quickly after sunrise. Winds will be very light from the south-west at around 3 to 4 mph, keeping conditions settled. Feels-like temperatures will be closer to -2°C to -3°C at first, but the cold will ease steadily as the sun gets higher.

Midday
By late morning into midday, conditions will be bright with spells of sunshine and some patchy high cloud developing. Temperatures will rise to around 2°C by late morning and reach approximately 3°C by midday. Winds will remain light from the south-west, generally below 4 mph. It will feel noticeably more pleasant than earlier in the week, especially in sheltered areas.

Afternoon
The afternoon will stay dry and fairly bright, though cloud will gradually increase from the west. Temperatures are expected to peak at around 5°C during the early to mid-afternoon. Winds will slowly back to a southerly direction and strengthen slightly to around 4 to 5 mph. Despite the increasing cloud, it will remain a mild and calm winter afternoon.

Evening
During the evening, cloud will thicken further and the chance of rain will rise, particularly later in the evening and towards midnight. Temperatures will fall only slowly, holding at around 4°C to 5°C during the early evening. Winds will turn south to south-south-west at around 6 to 7 mph. Any rain that develops is expected to be light at first, with more unsettled conditions likely later overnight.
