NUH Critical Incident: Medical Director explains how you can help as ‘every available space’ used for patient care

Medical Director Manjeet Shehmar explains how you can help NUH after a Critical Incident was declared today at the Trust.

Manjeet said:

‘Today we have declared a critical incident at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust. This is because of how busy we are. We have been using every available space within the hospital. This includes beds on our inpatient wards and in our ED department. We have many patients currently on our corridors who are having to wait for long periods of time.

‘This is not care that we accept and we are doing everything that we possibly can to make sure that we move our patients into a more suitable place where they can get the care that they need. I would like you to help us in two ways: If you feel you need ED, please can you contact other areas such as NHS 111 first to see if your condition can be treated elsewhere.

‘And secondly, when you do come into ED, our staff are working incredibly hard to make sure that patients are safe. And I would just ask for your kindness and your understanding.

‘If, of course, you feel you need our emergency services, then we are still open and you do still need to come into hospital.’
