PD Rocket tracks down driver after police deploy Stinger in pursuit near Gunthorpe

A suspect was chased down and detained by a police dog after a high-speed pursuit.

Officers became aware of a suspected stolen car in the Newark area and soon devised a plan to bring it to a stop.

After pre-emptively ‘stinging’ the vehicle with a tyre deflation device near Lowdham, its driver continued along at high speed and failed to stop for pursuing officers.

The car, believed to be travelling on false plates,  was pursued towards Gunthorpe before being driven along a farm track and abandoned.

Police Dog Rocket was immediately deployed in pursuit and detained a suspect in woodland a short time later.

A-34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and failing to proceed as directed by a PC.

Sergeant Nick Dachtler, of Nottinghamshire Police’s dog section, said:

“This was a great team effort by all the officers involved – and of course by PD Rocket, who more than lived up to his name as he chased down and detained our suspect.

“Rocket is still fairly new in service but is proving himself to be an excellent working animal – with an exceptional nose and a blistering turn of speed.”
