East Midlands Railway announced the incident at 12:50 pm on Tuesday 21 April.
EMR said:
‘Line closed with between Nottingham Grantham and Newark Castle.
‘We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Nottingham and Grantham/Newark Castle and is disrupting our trains on the Matlock/Derby/Nottingham/Cleethorpes route, Nottingham/Grantham/Skegness route, Crewe/Derby/Nottingham/Lincoln route and our Liverpool Lime Street/Nottingham/Norwich route.
‘Emergency services are en-route to manage the incident. We are waiting for an estimated time of their arrival.
‘Trains can not run between Nottingham and Grantham/Newark Castle in both directions.
‘At present we are expecting the line to re-open in the next 3 hours. As soon as the line is open again, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 16:00.’
