Visitors to Tollerton’s airfield were in for a surprise as a Spitfire turned up for most of the day on Sunday 14 July.
The aircraft took off, flew traffic patterns and landed and could be seen on the fuel pumps just a few metres from families enjoying the warm weather in the viewing areas.
The Spitfire ML295 which was based at a Kent airfield in the war, has taken to the skies again after a £3m restoration completed in late 2023 by its owner Graham Oliver, a vet from Hucknall.
The Mk 9 Spitfire ML295, assigned to the Royal Canadian Air Force 411 ‘Grizzly Bears’ Squadron, moved from Biggin Hill to France where, on July 30 1944 it crashed in Normandy.
