Two groups of protesters gathered in Old Market Square on Saturday.
Protests have been taking place in several cities across the UK over the weekend, which follows unrest in the wake of the Southport stabbings on Monday. The events in dozens of UK cities were organised by far-right groups, but local campaigners in Nottingham set up a counter-protest in the city.
Hundreds of people gathered in Nottingham from far-right and anti-racist groups.

In Nottingham, hundreds of people congregated in the area throughout the afternoon.
A number of shops and businesses closed their doors as a precaution.
The city centre away from Old Market Square was largely unaffected by the protests, though scuffles briefly broke out in front of the council house and onto the tram line area.

Police will release arrest details after the event but we witnessed at least four apparent arrests at the scene.
The first gathering of anti-racism supporters and other Nottingham groups made speeches at the Brian Clough statue from 1 pm.

At around 2 pm the second group from the so-called patriots started to assemble lower down toward the beach attraction.

Police formed a line between the two groups. Eggs, plastic and glass bottles were among items thrown sporadically mostly toward the anti-racism campaigners.
At one point the Old Market Square entrance to the beach was closed because to came within the moving police line.
