Plain-clothes police operate after increase in vehicle crime

Plain-clothed patrols have been operating in Gedling in order to catch those responsible for a series of vehicle thefts.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team has dedicated its time to ensuring those responsible are caught as well as offering security advice to its residents.

Police said:

‘We have already arrested a man, aged 44, on suspicion of a number of vehicle crime offences and have located one of the stolen vehicles.

‘Incidents have taken place in Maple Drive, where football boots, kickboxing equipment and Amazon parcels were taken and in Horwood Drive where air pods and a dash camera were stolen.
Other streets targeted included Babbington Crescent and Willow Lane, where a bank card was taken from a car as well as an expensive bottle of perfume.

‘A number of vehicles were also stolen, including a Mercedes, which was found close to Carlton Road where we arrested a man.

PC Mark Szeremeta, beat manager for Gedling, said: “Throughout December, we have carried out plain clothed patrols to locate those responsible.

“We know that residents in the area were extremely distressed to find their cars broken into or stolen.

“We made it a priority and tasked officers to ensure those responsible were caught.

“For many, their vehicle is their lifeline to take children to school, to go to work, and to enjoy social activities and we were determined to put a stop to this crime spree.

“Thanks to our proactive patrols we managed to locate one of the vehicles stolen, which has led us to a suspect. We hope this will offer residents some reassurance.

“Our neighbourhood policing team will always listen to our residents’ concerns and direct our resources to where they need us most.

“Since this arrest, there has been a dramatic decline in the number of incidents of this nature being reported in the Gedling area.”
