Plans for Nottinghamshire land to be redesignated as a football pitch

A spokesperson for Ashfield District Council said:

‘A paper has been published today, that will be discussed at next week’s Cabinet that outlines our plans to reallocate land on Kingsway Park.

‘Currently the land is legally designated as allotment land. However, this part of Kingsway Park has never been used for allotments, it is the end field (pictured ) that has only ever been used for dog walking, playing football and other public uses.

‘As part of our multi-million pound investment into sports at Kingsway Park, we will be creating a grass football pitch on this field. To do this, we need to legally redesignate the land from allotment to public recreation ground.

‘If this motion is approved at Cabinet, we will hold a formal public consultation, before writing to the Secretary of State to ask for permission to redesignate the land.

‘This is a positive move for the residents who use and enjoy Kingsway Park everyday, redesignating the land means it will be protected as public open space. It will allow us to fulfil our commitment to providing more opportunities for people to access sports in Kirkby.’
