On 13 November 2025 officers from Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Team recovered a camper van that was stolen in Derbyshire from Gotham Nottinghamshire due to the vehicle being fitted with a tracking device.
Fitting additional security devices to vehicles can stop thieves getting away with property or track the property down so it can be returned.
A multilayer approach to security will work most effectively.
Physical and visual security such as parking in secure areas, fitting steering or wheel clamps or restricting access with gates and bollards can stop a theft occurring.
Any physical security measure will slow down a thief and cause them to make more noise if they use tools or physical force to try to overcome a device.
Lighting and visibility either from low level lighting or movement detecting flood
lights can put off thieves or aid CCTV recording.
Dusk till dawn or movement sensor lights allow people passing by, neighbours or occupants to see activity around a vehicle or premises.
Surveillance and recording using video doorbells, CCTV systems or natural surveillance can alert you to suspicious activity or give exact times that it took place.
Tracking devices and property marking allows a vehicle or object to be tracked or identified if found which can speed up recovery and return.
