Police commissioner to hear Rushcliffe residents’ concerns at West Bridgford meeting

Residents across Rushcliffe are being invited to share their concerns about crime, antisocial behaviour and neighbourhood safety directly with Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner at a special community event later this month.

Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden will host a Public Safety Social on Tuesday 24 November, bringing together local residents, neighbourhood policing officers and Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Community Safety Team to discuss the issues affecting communities across the borough.

Taking place at a central West Bridgford location from 5.30pm to 8.00pm, the free event will give people the opportunity to hear about work already underway to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, ask questions of local policing and community safety representatives, and help shape future priorities.

The evening will focus on the concerns that matter most to Rushcliffe residents, from speeding and dangerous driving to antisocial behaviour, neighbourhood policing, rural crime and the safety of young people.

Unlike a traditional public meeting, the Public Safety Social will provide a relaxed and informal environment where residents can speak openly with those responsible for keeping their communities safe.

The event forms part of the PCC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening public confidence in policing and ensuring that residents have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their neighbourhoods.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden said: “One of the most important parts of my role as Police and Crime Commissioner is making sure that the voices of local people are heard and that we’re responding to the issues that matter most to them.

“Rushcliffe is home to a wide range of communities, from busy towns and residential neighbourhoods to smaller villages and rural areas, and I recognise that people’s experiences and concerns about crime and safety can be very different depending on where they live.

“Whether you’re worried about speeding on your street, antisocial behaviour in your neighbourhood or rural crime, or simply want to know more about what we’re doing to keep your community safe, I want to hear from you.

“These events are a chance to sit down with me, local police officers and our partners, have an honest conversation about what’s working and where we need to do more, and explore practical solutions together.

“Partnership working is absolutely vital to improving community safety, but that partnership must include the people who live and work in our communities.

“I’d really encourage Rushcliffe residents to come along, share their experiences and help us build safer, stronger communities together.”

The evening will begin with short updates from the PCC, the local neighbourhood policing inspector and Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Community Safety Team.

Residents will then be invited to take part in round-table discussions, providing an opportunity to raise local concerns, share ideas and explore how different organisations can work together to address them.

The format is designed to encourage constructive conversations and practical problem-solving, with feedback captured and followed up where appropriate.

No previous knowledge of policing or community safety is required, and residents do not need to have experienced crime to attend.

The PCC is particularly keen to hear from people who want to make a positive contribution to their communities, including those who may not have previously engaged with the police or local authorities.

The Rushcliffe event is the latest in a series of Public Safety Socials being held across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, bringing residents and partner organisations together to strengthen relationships, improve understanding and identify local priorities.
