Police dog finds suspect after Land Rover Discovery stolen

A suspect was sniffed out by a police dog after a car was stolen in Southwell.

The Land Rover Discovery was taken from an address in Landseer Road shortly before 1am on Wednesday 19 February.

The vehicle later passed into Lincolnshire before it was followed towards Newark.

It was later abandoned in Winston Court by two suspects who fled the scene on foot.

Police Dog Reno and his handler PC Chris Duffy were called in to help search the area and soon sniffed out a suspect lurking in a front garden.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop.

He was later released on police bail.

Inspector Tim Ringer, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Our dogs and their handlers have had a very productive few weeks where they have played a vital role in detaining multiple suspects.

“In incidents like this where suspects have multiple hiding places to choose from, our dogs and their noses become an absolutely invaluable part of the wider policing team.”
