Police issue dispersal order for Eastwood Christmas lights switch-on

A dispersal order has been put in place in Eastwood Town Centre to help ensure the town’s Christmas Lights switch-on remains free from antisocial behaviour.

The order, which will be in effect from 3pm to midnight tomorrow (Saturday), empowers officers to direct individuals to leave the area and—if necessary—escort them home.

Implemented after local consultation, the order follows recent reports of antisocial behaviour, criminal damage, and violence in the area.

The action comes after the successful use of a similar order during Bonfire Night in Beeston.

Sergeant Simon Boyles said:

“This is a fun event for the town that will attract a large number of families and young children.

“We are looking forward to attending this event and meeting with the local community, and we will not allow a small minority of individuals to cast a shadow over the evening.

“Anyone found behaving in a way deemed unacceptable by officers will be issued with a dispersal notice and compelled to leave the town centre.

“Younger people will be returned home to their parents if necessary – along with an explanation of the actions that drew them to our attention.

“Hopefully these temporary powers will not prove necessary.”
