Police operation tackles nuisance car meets and street racing in Rushcliffe

Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing officers were engaged in the Nottinghamshire Police operation to address nuisance car meets and street racing this weekend.

Operation Wheelspin involved officers from Ashfield, Broxtowe, City South, Gedling, and Rushcliffe.

They were also supported by officers from Operational Support.

The officers, working as a team, are gathering evidence of offences committed under road traffic legislation and anti-social behaviour powers across South Nottinghamshire.

Officers issued warnings under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 and reported drivers for driving without due care and consideration for other road users, contrary to Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

In Gedling and Ashfield, the local authorities have also implemented Public Spaces Protection Orders, which prohibit certain behaviours associated with illegal and anti-social driving in key locations. These PSPOs can be enforced with fixed penalty notices issued by the local authorities.

For other officers from Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing and Rushcliffe Response, it has been business as usual, dealing with incidents and ongoing enquiries related to Rushcliffe.

This has included patrols of Bingham, Cotgrave, and East Leake, an arrest enquiry at an address in Long Eaton, and missing person enquiries across the area.
