Police found a van less than an hour after it was reported stolen, and seized drugs discovered in the vehicle.
The white Volkswagen Crafter van was reported stolen by a hire company on Friday evening (24 November).
Following a search, the vehicle was spotted by officers in Radford and they pulled it over in Gregory Boulevard shortly before 10pm.
The officers could smell cannabis and so asked the driver to take a roadside drugs test, which he failed.
Further checks found his driving licence had expired.
The 34-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and driving without a licence.
He was further arrested for possession of a Class B drug after a quantity of cannabis was found inside the van.
Enquiries found the vehicle had not been returned to the leasing company on time. It has since been returned to the company.
The detained suspect has since been released pending further investigation.
PC Dan Bird, of the Radford Road response team, said:
“Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extremely dangerous and puts other road users at risk of harm.
“Driving without a licence is also a serious offence and so I am pleased we were able to make this arrest.
“I hope this arrest sends a clear message that Nottinghamshire Police will not hesitate to take action against anyone who puts lives at risk through offences such as these.”
