Police use Stinger to stop car with ‘large quantity’ of cocaine near Lady Bay Bridge

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police road crime policing team used stinging tactics to bring a vehicle to a stop to prevent a large quantity of cocaine coming into Nottingham.

The incident happened on Wednesday 30 September just before 9.45pm near Lady Bay Bridge.

The vehicle was travelling in the direction of the city centre when officers used the stinging tactic to burst the tyres and then boxed the vehicle in.

In the rear passenger footwell, there was a bag which contained a large wrapped bundle of Class A drugs believed to be cocaine.

On further inspection of the vehicle, a large machete was also found in the boot.

Officers then conducted a search of the driver’s property in Carlton where deal bags and scales were recovered.

Officers arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

A teenager was also located inside the vehicle and safeguarding measures are underway to protect them.

This is part of Operation Reclaim, a partnership approach to tackling the major issues impacting the city centre, which includes drug dealing.

Officers are continuing to build up a strong picture of the key players bringing drugs in and out of the city centre to dismantle their operations and prevent young people being exploited.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies said:

“Drug dealers will often exploit young people to carry out their dirty work in an attempt not to get caught. This is exploitation, and they do not care how these young people are treated as long as they protect their supply.

“Not only across the city centre but also the county, we are determined to stamp these drug dealers out and ensure they are put before the courts. I cannot be clearer – come into the city centre to supply drugs and you will be caught and will do everything in our power to make your life as miserable as possible so you cannot operate.”
