A new Pret a Manger sandwich shop could arrive at Nottingham Station if plans are approved.
Applicant Dallas Holdings Limited submitted plans for the new sandwich shop to be set up at a vacant unit in the cityâs railway station, on Carrington Street, on June 17.
The plans have taken a step forward after Nottingham City Council validated the application Friday, June 26.
If approved, Pret a Manger will take over a vacant unit on Platform 5B and 6, next to the existing Pumpkin Cafe.
Under proposed plans, there will be minor alterations made to the unit including new Pret logos on the shop front and signage.
Two walls will also be knocked down to create more space, along with cupboard and furniture installations to bring the premises back to life.
The design statement reads: âTo facilitate the use of the unit for a Pret A Manger, new internal changes are required, including the addition
of new partitions to allow areas of use within the unit.
âNew partition walls will be added, along with the addition of racking, shelving and kitchen equipment for the use.
âNew additions will all be reversible, with easy removal of internal walls and the internal fit out of shelving and racking being freestanding.
âThe proposals will not result in the loss of historic fabric.
âTherefore, the new internal layout will not harm the historic fabric of the building.
âThis application also proposes the addition of signage associated with the new occupier that follows the form and appearance of existing signage on the platforms of the station. â
Design plans have taken into account the historical architecture and heritage of the Grade-II listed building, retaining its character and appearance.
The design document adds: âThe suspended sign follows the design and character of existing signage on the platform and is positioned to sit a suitable distance above the platform such that it will not conflict with pedestrian movements.
âOverall the signage elements are limited in scale and form, respond and replicate existing signage elements on the platform and sit within the existing design and features of the building.
âThe proposals therefore will not impact on the significance of the heritage asset and sit within the character of other commercial signage
to ancillary uses within platform area.
âOverall, the works have been designed and located to minimise the intervention to the listed building.â
This would be the cafe chainâs second location in Nottingham.
Pret a Manger operates hundreds of stores in the UK with over 270 of them located in London.
