Radcliffe shop owner ‘devastated’ after £2,000 worth of phones and laptops stolen

It was reported by a passer-by who saw two people carry out the offence before loading up the white transit-style van.

A computer shop owner says his company has suffered a significant financial loss after being burgled – which has come on top of being hit by the Covid economic impact.

Around £2,000 worth of mobile phones and laptops were taken from the shop in Cropwell Road after the front door shop window was smashed just after 9pm.

Now police have released an image of a distinctive looking van that was seen driving away from the scene outside Radtek in Radcliffe-on-Trent in the hope of catching who did this.

It was reported by a passer-by who saw two people carry out the offence before loading up the white transit-style van, which also had a blue-coloured strip at the bottom, and drive off.

Mathew Fraser-Smith runs the family business alongside his dad and brother. He said: “Financially, it’s really not good for us. Like all shops, we were closed for a long time due to the pandemic and we were just getting up and running and again.

“It’s so disheartening to experience something like this but thankfully, even though we’ve lost a lot, we did have a fair amount saved up so we are hoping to recover quickly. We have reopened today as normal and have managed to tidy up the mess. We won’t let it get us down.”

Neighbourhood Inspector Rob Lawton, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It’s appalling to hear of a local business being targeted in this way. Many shops are not able to sustain a financial blow on this scale having been closed for so long during the various lockdowns.

“We will do everything to track down the offenders and are carrying out thorough enquiries.

“We are appealing to anyone who might recognise the van in this picture and to anyone in the local area who saw or heard anything suspicious.

“Please get in touch with us on 101 – no matter how small you think the information might be – it might just be the detail needed to track down a suspect.”

People with information are asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident 750 of 31 August.

Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
