Eight months of overnight roadworks are set to begin on the M1 as National Highways carries out maintenance on motorway safety barriers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
The programme will cover the stretch between junction 28 for Mansfield and Alfreton and junction 30 at Barlborough, beginning on Monday, July 20 and continuing until March 2027.
National Highways said the work is intended to extend the serviceable life of the barriers along the route.
Most of the work will take place overnight between 9pm and 6am, Monday to Friday, with lane closures and temporary slip road closures introduced at different stages of the project.
Northbound restrictions
From July 20 to August 7, lanes one and two will be closed northbound between junctions 28 and 29.
The northbound entry slip road at junction 29 will close on July 28, followed by closures of the northbound exit slip road on August 5 and 6.
Between August 10 and 18, lanes one and two will be closed northbound from junction 29 to junction 29a. The junction 29a northbound exit slip road will also close on August 10 and 11.
Further lane closures will be introduced between junctions 29a and 30 from August 19 until September 10.
The northbound entry slip road at junction 29a will close on August 25, while the northbound exit slip road at junction 30 will close on September 3 and 4.

Southbound lane closures between junctions 30 and 29a are scheduled from September 11 to October 13. The junction 30 southbound exit slip road will close on September 11 and 14.
A further period of lane closures on the same section is listed between September 28 and October 13.
The junction 29a southbound exit slip road will close on September 28, followed by the southbound entry slip road on September 29.
From October 14 to November 6, lanes one and two will be closed southbound between junctions 29a and 29.
The southbound exit slip road at junction 29 will close on October 23 and 26, while the junction 30 southbound entry slip road is scheduled to close on October 27 and 28.
Between November 9 and January 25, lanes one and two will be closed southbound from junction 29 to junction 28.
The slip roads serving Tibshelf Services will close on November 23 and 24, while the junction 28 southbound exit slip road will close on January 11 and 12.
National Highways said work will be paused during the August Bank Holiday weekend and between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
No work is currently scheduled between December 21 and January 4 because of the Christmas and New Year period.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “We’ll be carrying out maintenance work on the safety barriers along the M1 between junction 28 and junction 30 to extend their serviceable life.
“Where it is safe to do so, access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained in emergency situations.
“We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.
“We always aim to work to the programme; however, unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes. Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.”
