McCarthy Stone, a UK developer and manager of retirement communities, has been granted planning permission by Rushcliffe Borough Council for its proposals for the former Police Station site, off Rectory Road, West Bridgford.
The scheme will deliver 86 Retirement Living apartments, with a mixture of one- and two-bedroom units, complete with on-site car parking and professionally landscaped gardens.
The development will also feature communal facilities such as a residents’ lounge, on-site bistro, mobility scooter charging and storage room, guest suite, an internal refuse store and lift access to all floors.
Since submitting a planning application in March, McCarthy Stone says it has worked closely with the Council and the site neighbours to produce a final design that is appropriate for the site and works for the local community.
McCarthy Stone said it has listened to the community and have revised their proposal to leave the woodland as a far more natural area, enabling the continued protection of trees and planting, and encouraging biodiversity in the area.
Following the decision, Matt Wills, Divisional Managing Director at McCarthy Stone, said:
“We are delighted that our plans to deliver much-needed retirement accommodation in West Bridgford have been approved.
“Our proposals will help to address a demand for retirement accommodation in the area, providing housing choice for older people, whilst freeing up the wider housing market for families and first-time buyers further down the chain.
“Our developments also have wider benefits for the local economy, with many of our residents using the local shops daily or often.
“This will therefore provide an important boost to the local shops and businesses in West Bridgford in the wake of the pandemic.
“We would like to thank local stakeholders and residents for their input and feedback throughout the planning process and we look forward to being part of the community.”
McCarthy Stone’s Retirement Living development could significantly improve local housing choice for older homeowners who wish to retain their independence, in their own home, with access to a warm, fun, and caring community of friendly neighbours to encourage a happier and healthier later life.
The shared spaces provided within McCarthy Stone’s developments help to create a ready-made supportive and vibrant community for customers to access, whilst retaining their independence and involvement in the wider local area, as they choose.
McCarthy Stone will begin construction of their development in the coming months
