Six large new homes could replace a derelict property in Ruddington if an application sent to Rushcliffe Borough Council is approved by planners.
Developer Cameron Homes has submitted a proposal detailing the idea, off Loughborough Road.
The plan would include the demolition of The Croft House, an eight-bedroom, 1930s mansion. While the building is not of listed status, it is identified as being a ‘key unlisted building’ on the Townscape Appraisal Map. But a heritage statement sought by the developers as part of the planning application argues that, despite its age and size, it is not of sufficient heritage interest to merit consideration as an asset to the area.
The new houses, all five-bedroom, two-storey dwellings, would be designed to the same specification as more than 200 homes being built on nearby land. Influenced by the mock-Tudor aesthetic of houses on Loughborough Road, the properties would be made from “varied yet cohesive” orange brickwork and red-clay effect roof tiles.
There are currently four large developments being built on the north, east and south side of the area in Ruddington. Planning permission was granted in 2019 for 180 homes and new public open spaces at the south side of the village.
In 2020, two applications were approved – one for another 56 new homes, and one for an extension to a nursing home to provide 61 assisted living apartments. And in 2023, permission was granted for a further 36 properties.
All dwellings will be equipped with electric vehicle charging ports. Each home will also have, in addition to its garages.
Planners will make a decision on the application in the coming months.
