A runaway driver was arrested after colliding with another car.
Police were alerted to a suspected stolen car in Nottingham city centre yesterday (Sunday 5 September ) evening and began to follow it.
The VW Golf was first spotted in North Sherwood Street, the Arboretum, shortly after 9.25pm and was immediately driven away at high speed.
It was followed for several miles afterwards, passing through the city centre and towards the Queen’s Medical Centre.
The car finally came to stop when it collided with another car in Derby Road, Beeston.
The driver attempted to flee the scene but was immediately detained with the assistance of a police dog.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and drink-driving.
He was taken to hospital for precautionary checks and remains in police custody
The occupants of the other car were not injured and investigations remain ongoing.
Sergeant Catherine Edwards, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This kind of dangerous driving places members of the public at significant risk and will never be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police.
“We are now working to establish exactly what happened during this incident and I would like to commend the officers involved for their tenacity and skill.
“We are committed to protecting the public and will look to take appropriate action against anyone who threatens safety in this way.”
