Schoolgirls interview a cop for International Women’s Day

Two girls from the mini police have interviewed a senior officer for International Women’s Day.

Amelia and Lily-Kate put their questions to Superintendent Claire Rukas as part of the force’s celebrations of the day, which takes place on March 8 every year.

The girls, who are both 10, are pupils at the Portland Spencer Academy in Bilborough.

When asked what advice she would give to girls who want to join the police, Superintendent Rukas said: “The only barrier is yourself. You can absolutely achieve anything that you want to achieve.”

Amelia and Lily-Kate got to visit the force’s dog section and try out the sirens on a tactical support van as part of their visit to Force Headquarters.

The mini police is for primary school children aged 9-11. 600 students across Nottinghamshire take part in the scheme, which seeks to engage with children and build trust in the police.
