Officers have arrested a second man in connection with a machete confrontation near Old Market Square.
Police immediately responded after four youths on two e-bikes confronted a group of other youths outside the Council House in Old Market Square on Sunday evening (16 November).
Officers were on scene within less than a minute of the call and an extensive search of the area was conducted, with several people being searched but the suspects had left the area. No injuries were reported.
A thorough investigation to identify those responsible, including an extensive CCTV search and public appeal for information, has now led to two arrests.
A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Wednesday afternoon (19 November) in connection with the incident and taken into custody.
A 23-year-old man was also arrested last night (19 November) in connection with the incident.
Enquiries to trace further suspects remain ongoing.
City Commander Superintendent Chris Pearson said: “We made a commitment to the public that we would ensure those responsible for what happened on Sunday were located and arrested.
“We now have two people in police custody and continue to pursue other suspects in relation to this senseless and dangerous incident.
“The public should be able to visit the city centre without fear or witnessing this disgraceful behaviour.
“We hope these significant arrests will offer the public some reassurance.
“Let’s be clear – we will make life as difficult as possible for anyone who thinks they can come into the city with a knife.
“We will use all the powers at our disposal to make sure they are banned from the city centre and won’t have access to any of its facilities over the Christmas period.
“This is how serious we take knife crime in Nottingham.”
