Litter left behind in one of Nottingham’s busiest parks has prompted a fresh appeal from council teams as warmer weather draws more people outdoors.
Nottingham City Council’s Parks and Open Spaces team has shared images showing large amounts of rubbish scattered across the Forest Recreation Ground, with bottles, food packaging and other waste left across seating areas and grass.
The council says it is “wonderful to see” parks busy as spring sunshine arrives, with more people making use of Nottingham’s green spaces. However, the scenes captured highlight the impact when visitors fail to dispose of their litter responsibly.
Staff say that when rubbish is left behind, it not only spoils the environment but also diverts time and resources away from maintaining and improving parks for the wider community.
In a statement, the team urged visitors to take simple steps to help keep parks clean: either take litter home or use the bins provided on site. They also reminded people that barbecues are not permitted, as they can cause lasting damage to grassed areas.
The images from the Forest Rec show how quickly a well-used public space can deteriorate when waste is not cleared, with litter spread across steps, pathways and open grass.
Council teams say that with a collective effort from park users, Nottingham’s green spaces can remain clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone throughout the spring and summer months.
