Six suspects have appeared in court after a group of men forced their way into a home which had been turned into a cannabis factory.
Police were called to Birding Street, Mansfield, around 5 am on Monday (6 May) after a resident was awoken by a break-in at a neighbouring property.
Officers arrived at the scene quickly and detained several suspects inside the address and nearby.
They also discovered cannabis was being grown across multiple rooms within the property.
Dichrije Elliel, aged 24, of Tanners Mews, Deptford, London; Addil Elmi, aged 24, of Buchan Road, Nunhead, London; Khalid Omar, aged 23, of Montague Road, Uxbridge, London; Donnell Quarry, aged 24, of Langston Hughes Close, Lambeth, London; Andrew Thomas, of Campbell Square, Northampton and Golam Yackobi, of Brambles Farm Drive, Uxbridge, have all been charged with aggravated burglary.
Thomas has also been charged with dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance and failing to stop for an officer.
All six appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (8 May) and were remanded in custody until their next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on 5 June 2024.
Detective Sergeant Rachel Mayfield, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Officers who attended the scene worked quickly and efficiently to detain several suspects in challenging conditions.
“Thorough investigations by detectives have now led to six men being placed before the courts.
“Large cannabis grows of this nature can lead to a host of problems in communities so it is always good news when we can put them out of action.
“Anyone who travels to the county to carry out offences of this nature can expect to be met with a robust response from the force.”
