Snowdrop Splendour returns to Holme Pierrepont Hall

The privately-owned Holme Pierrepont Hall will be opening its doors to the public for the glorious displays of snowdrops, hellebores and other winter-flowering bulbs from Monday 5 February.

Robert and Charlotte Brackenbury are the 19th generation owners of the Grade I listed Tudor manor house, the oldest brick building in Nottinghamshire, just a few minutes drive from West Bridgford and they are opening their ancestral family home and gardens for everyone to enjoy in February and early March.

The grounds are renowned as one of the finest places to see snowdrops in Nottinghamshire and feature several varieties of the flower bulb including Galanthus nivalis ‘Sam Arnott’, the pretty double snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis ‘Flore Pleno’ and the larger Galanthus plicatus ‘Colossus’.

Witch hazels, Daphnes and Sarcococcas provide a stunning backdrop for the snowdrops in the East Garden and also fill the air with a delicious fragrance.

Many of the plants have been naturalised in the grounds for hundreds of years although others have been cultivated by the team of gardeners and volunteers who work at the Hall.

Robert Brackenbury told us:

“We have a superb garden team who work to ensure there is new planting, colour and interest throughout the year, not only for our garden visitors but also for couples choosing to get married at the Hall.

Robert goes on to add: “There aren’t many local places where you can see snowdrops in one stunning setting and visitors often comment that the gardens and woodland at Holme Pierrepont Hall are one of their favourite spots to see these cheerful flowers. They particularly like the fact that the flowers are naturalised, rather than formally planted.”
