Suspects charged after Lime bike vandalism

Two suspects have been charged and brought before the courts as police continue to work with partners to prevent and reduce incidents of theft and vandalism relating to electric rental Lime bikes.

Nottinghamshire Police is continuing to work closely with bike hire operator Lime to tackle criminality linked to these e-bikes.

Lime first introduced the vehicles to the city in April 2023, as part of a partnership with Nottingham City Council, contributing to an aim of making Nottingham carbon neutral by 2028.

Police investigations into two separate reported incidents relating to Lime bikes have resulted in suspects being charged with offences.

Kyle Bond, aged 23, of Wagtail Close, Stapleford, was arrested in connection with a report of damage caused to a Lime bike on 21 May.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage for which he was given a 12-month conditional discharge and told to pay £500 compensation when his case was sentenced at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (9 September 2025).

In relation to a separate incident, police arrested a 17-year-old boy at his home on 29 August in connection with a report of a Lime bike being set on fire in the St Ann’s area of Nottingham on 25 August.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was subsequently charged with arson.

He has been remanded in youth detention accommodation and is next due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 8 October.

Chief Inspector Mike Ebbins, of Nottinghamshire Police, said “These e-bikes are a shared resource used by residents from across the city, so it’s wrong for anyone to feel like they can just steal or damage them.

“These sorts of incidents are completely unacceptable. We take these reports seriously and I’m pleased that our investigations into these reported incidents resulted in arrests and charges, with one offender already convicted and sentenced and a further suspect due to appear in court next month.

“We will not tolerate this type of behaviour and will always take whatever action is necessary to keep people safe and take robust action against anyone suspected of involvement in criminality relating to these bikes.”
