Teenager arrested after woman in her 40s subjected to serious sexual assault

Detectives have arrested a 19-year-old man following a serious sexual assault in Newark.

The incident happened just after midnight on Saturday, October 22, near Portland Street.

A woman in her 40s was walking along the street when she was approached by a man from behind.

He then subjected her to a serious sexual assault.

A member of the public confronted the man, and he fled the scene before police arrived.

An appeal was launched and police have now arrested a 19-year-old man who remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Stu Barson, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We would really like to thank the public after we appealed for their help yesterday.

“We have made an arrest. This still remains an active investigation and we continue to appeal for any witnesses who may have seen the assault or knows anything about what happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.”
