Long Eaton police officers assisted Derbyshire Trading Standards last week where three local shops in Long Eaton town centre were targeted on suspicion of selling illegal tobacco and vaping products.
In carrying out the operation the following products were seized from one of the premises:
– 26,880 x cigarette sticks
– 19.75kg x Hand Rolling Tobacco
– numerous non-compliant vapes.
These had a street value in the tens of thousands of pounds.
Police said:
‘Two further premises were closed for supplying illicit cigarettes also. Work will be done with the landlords to ensure this activity does not continue.
‘Illegal tobacco can include counterfeit tobacco products that are a “serious risk to health” as some products have been found to contain harmful elements including asbestos and other waste products.’
