Nottinghamshire Police officers made the arrests while patrolling the market.
Police said:
‘The city centre neighbourhood team headed out on Sunday (19 November) in uniform and plain clothes to engage with the public, deter criminals from thinking of committing crime, and giving out crime prevention advice on how to stay safe.
‘The team spent time walking around the market, answering questions, and stopping for a chat with people enjoying the festivities.
‘They were also on hand to stop anyone acting suspiciously and arrested two people for weapon and theft offences and carried out six stop and searches.
‘If you’re heading down to the market or trying your hand on the skating rink, remember to keep your belongings safe and be mindful when in busy areas.
‘If you see us walking around feel free to stop us for a chat and say hello.’
