Two charged after suspected firearm found in vehicle following drugs discovery

Two men have appeared in court after police discovered a suspected firearm during a vehicle stop.

Officers attended a dismantled cannabis grow in Crossgate Drive, off the Queens Drive Industrial Park, Nottingham, after reports from a member of the public that people were at the scene.

Two men were pulled over by police in nearby Gateside Road at around 12.30 pm on Tuesday (7 February 2023).

A suspected firearm was found inside the vehicle during police searches.

Cornel Prelipcean, 50, and Samson Prelipcean, 27, both of York Avenue, Stanmore, Middlesex, have been charged with being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug and possessing an item converted into a firearm.

Both were remanded in custody when they appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (9 February 2023) and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on March 2 2023.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Gregg, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is always a good result when we can take a potentially lethal weapon off the streets.

“Officers responded quickly to reports of this incident and carried out thorough searches of the vehicle.

“I am pleased we have now charged two people.”

The cannabis grow was discovered by police on 31 January when around 550 plants were found growing inside an industrial unit.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with the production of Class B drugs, possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, fraud by false representation and driving without insurance.

All drugs and equipment have been removed from the site.
