Two in court after shot fired in The Meadows shopping area

Detectives investigating a firearms discharge have charged two suspects.

A shop window was damaged during a disturbance at the Bridgeway Centre, The Meadows, Nottingham, around 3.25pm on Sunday (5 May).

Detectives launched an investigation and after analysing CCTV footage arrested two teenagers on suspicion of committing a firearms offence.

Two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have now been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

They are expected to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (9 May).

A 19-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of affray has been released on bail.

Detective Sergeant Alana Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We do not believe anyone was injured during the incident but we take any report of this nature extremely seriously. I hope members of the community are reassured by these charges.

“Incidents of this nature are extremely rare in Nottinghamshire, and that is because we are very proactive about taking firearms off the streets before they can be used to cause harm.

“We are continuing to appeal for anyone with any information, or relevant dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage, to call 101, quoting incident number 635 of 5 May 2024.
