Police have arrested two suspects following the assault of a 13-year-old boy.
The victim was sitting on a bench outside Subway at ASDA in Lombard Street, Newark when he was attacked.
He was left with facial injuries that required hospital treatment following the incident at around 6:25 pm on 3 June 2023.
Two teenage suspects have since been identified, with Newark and Sherwood neighbourhood policing teams carrying out successful arrest attempts in Newark on Tuesday (6 June).
The suspects, both 13-year-old boys, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Inspector Charlotte Ellam, Nottinghamshire Police’s District Commander for Newark and Sherwood, said: “This was a completely unnecessary and unprovoked assault.
“Nottinghamshire Police is completely opposed to any form of violence and I certainly don’t want to see this type of behaviour anywhere in Newark and Sherwood.
“As a neighbourhood policing team, we carry out regular patrols of the community to provide a visible presence to help deter criminality and to stop any offences that take place.
“Two suspects have now been detained in connection with this incident and are currently being questioned.
“Our inquiries are still ongoing into this incident, so we’d ask anyone who has any information to call the police on 101, quoting incident 582 of 3 June 2023, or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
